Intact Intact project presentation Involved laboratories :
The Intact project, lead by EBI within the european TEMBLOR (The European Molecular Biology Linked Original resources) framework aims at developing a european federative database of protein-protein interactions and their annotations. The project groups eight institutional and industrial laboratories, one of which is the LaBRI, and will be financed over a three-year period. Intact partners will develop a normalised interaction data representation and their annotations in three phases : a basic standard to identify minimum necessary data, an extended standard to grasp all possible informations and a final definition validated by tests and public review. We will in parallel develop a data sharing protocol between components of the federative database. Deployment and management of the public database will mainly be done by EBI. An expertise will be developed for schemas definition, necessary ontologies and software tools development from data either experimental or obtained from existing resources. A large number of tools have to be developed to permit fiability and efficacy in the exploitation of interaction data, firstly optimisation and quality control tools, but also tools for access by database maintainers and by biologists users. Submission and control tools will be inspired by bioinformatics and visualisation staff of LaBRI. The development of tools permitting webs searches and predictions will be performed by some of the partners. CBiB's role : Engineers recruited for the Intact project will be located at CBiB which will provide computational resources, in particular calculation and data storage capacities. The centre will also be a meeting point for local partners (Engineers, computation researchers, biologists) and will facilitate technical and scientific activity.
